Frequently Asked Questions

What is Upcycling?

Generally speaking, upcycling is the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or a higher environmental value. In the case of NewlyMaid, we are either donating your dress to someone who will wear it again, or we will be upcycling your dress by repurposing the fabric and trim to create other products.

What kinds of dresses can I send to NewlyMaid?

NewlyMaid will accept dresses from ALL dress manufacturers in the bridal industry including bridesmaid, mother of the bride, social occasion and prom dresses. NewlyMaid will take dresses purchased from independent bridal shops, specialty shops and department stores. The dress must be in good condition with no pulls, tears, stains or other blemishes. All zippers and clasps must be in good working order. We do not accept bridal gowns, flower girl or quinceanera dresses.

What will NewlyMaid do with the dress that I send in with my prepaid mailer?

After inspection, your dress will either be donated to charity or recycled.

Dresses which are suitable for reuse will be donated to Clothes4Souls. Please visit clothes4souls.org to learn more about how the organization brings shoes and apparel to people in need around the world.

As new technology becomes available, NewlyMaid may recycle sent in dresses. Opportunities to convert fabric from old dresses into new filament are becoming available as well as are other reuse methods. NewlyMaid is poised to take advantage of these opportunities as our business scales, and we receive a greater volume of dresses.

Does my dress need to be cleaned?

NewlyMaid will accept dresses that are not dry-cleaned provided that they are properly sealed in the clear packaging provided.
